[Not a valid template]A team of 5 from Soul Winning Missions Association was able to meet at 3:45 a.m. at the Fort Lauderdale airport south bound to Port au Prince, Haiti. Led by Dr. Helen Newton, Pastor White, Sister Charlotte Thomas, Sister Jacqueline Kowalsky, and Brother Kwabena Akuley Nsiah, boarded the six o’clock a.m. flight in high spirits and expectations. Landing in Port au Prince, after a brief stop at immigration who wanted an explanation about the distribution of pharmaceuticals, Pastor Vincent arrived just in time as our local contact! We were off to the hotel to check in, drop our luggage, and have some lunch.
We spent Friday afternoon site seeing, and then going to Cite de Soleil which we had never visited. We were able to see Pastor Vincent’s church, named Good Samaritan, along with the school and clinic. While visiting the church we were able to listen to a praise and worship session by young women (one of whom was Pastor Vincent’s daughter) who were blessed with musical talents!! The school educates 200 students, and the kitchen feeds from 200 daily and up to 1500 people on occasion. Pastor Vincent has a building in which he teaches the children how to bake bread, so not only can they eat it, but he is equipping them with knowledge that can broaden their spectrum for future self reliance, bakers perhaps…
We ended the evening at Pastor Vincent’s home in which he nurtures 13 orphans. The visit to Pastor’s home was wonderful! We were met with smiling faces, hugs and kisses! These children know and share love!! They are loved!! Pastor Vincent has created an environment of love, education, motivation, and understanding for children who have suffered the tremendous loss of parents and stability. Pastor Vincent ministers to Cite de Soleil which is one of the poorest sections in Haiti. He is a living example of the gospel in action. He is doing what our Lord, Jesus the Christ did, tended to the poor, the orphans, the widows… what a way to end the day. We went back to the hotel to prepare for the meetings the following day.
